Tell Me the Stories of Jesus

I created this sculpture specifically for the 2015 LDS International Art Competition which is themed, “Tell Me the Stories of Jesus.” It seemed appropriate. I created a sculpture that illustrates about a dozen of the stories of Jesus using the movement of the brass and steel balls as well as the shape of the wood and, in fact, the species of the wood.

I made the sculpture from black walnut, white oak, ash, mahogany, blood wood, purple heart, and olive wood. The balls are 5/8 inch steel with one 1 inch brass ball electroplated in gold representing Jesus. Other brass balls of various sizes are put to symbolic and functional use as well.
It is approximately 48 inches in diameter at the base and 55 inches tall.
