Creating “Approaching the Compassionate” in metal filled a need in my soul. This piece, inspired by the ancient pattern of the compassionate breath, features scribe marks in the background that outline how to make the design with just a compass and straight edge. The intricate tile designs pay homage to Islamic tile work.

I originally created this design in wood years ago. I took that design and made it thinner, lighter, and more precise by using laser-cut stainless steel. This piece is 21″ by 21″.
