Most people who find themselves in the lobby of a public safety building probably aren’t there for the art. They didn’t come for inspiration, but that might be exactly what they need. The tessellation of birds in “Migration of Souls” emphasizes our ability to change regardless of our choices.
“Migration of Souls” is a mesmerizing pattern of birds. The avian figures on the right side are intricately carved through the paint into the wood. On the left, the birds reveal the painted surface in relief. The tessellation in the center highlights our ability to change.

This piece for the Box Elder Public Safety Building opened in the Spring of 2024. Like my earlier designs of “Migration of Souls,” this public installation is made of painted Baltic birch. However, this one is quite a bit bigger at 16 feet long and 2.5 feet tall.
